Most people understand what a flat tire is and when they need to change the black juice in the engine but a few understand anything about suspension apart from the fact that they that those things that prevent the coffee from spilling when the vehicle hits a pothole or bump.

What Is Suspension?

If you thought they are the elements that prevent your favorite cappuccino from spilling then you are halfway right. Well, suspension refers to the system of shock absorbers and springs that are attached between the wheels and the main body of your car. The work of the system is to keep the wheels on the road, which is where they should be, and provide a smooth ride as far as rough terrain is concerned. They are the reason why your car will bounce up and down when some weigh is applied on it or when going over a bump or into a pothole. This bounce is caused by springs and the shock absorbers come in to reduce the bouncing.

Checking Your Car’s Suspension

You can simply drive your car for a distance to test whether the suspension system is working properly. Keep an attentive ear to listen strange sounds especially on uneven roads. You scan also monitor the car when you are taking a bend. If it leans too much on a particular side, this mean that it is time to visit the auto repair shop and have the suspension repaired or replaced. As much as faulty suspension systems can be detected when driving, you should spare some time to visually observe the springs and shock absorbers for any anomalies.

When To get Professional Help

Suspension is important for your vehicle because when any faults are left unchecked the problem could get worse and damage other components since the shock will not be absorbed. The problem could also lead to damage and accidents which can be dangerous. It is therefore crucial that when you notice that there is a problem with the driving experience especially on rough terrain or uneven roads you consult a mechanic or automobile professional as this is most likely a suspension crisis. So the ext time your vehicle is bouncing excessively or not bouncing at all, make sure you have the problem fixed before it turns into an elephant in the room, or in the car for this matter.
