Do These 10 Things – They Make other Drivers Happy
While on the road, everybody wants to stay safe, including you. That is why there are rules for road use. However, do you know that there are things that you can do, for example, honking your horn needlessly that make other road users irritated? What about overlapping when there are traffic snarl ups? And what about stopping to stare and ‘ooh and aah’ at an accident scene when you know you aren’t helping? And what about those who throw soda cans and other litter on the road at high speed? We could go on and on … and on, but this is a happy day, so choose to make other road users happy. How?
Tailgating is a dangerous risk – Avoid this!
In most countries, the road safety rules are clear – keep some space between you and the car in front as you drive. Most people violate this rule without knowing the possible consequences. What if the car in front stops suddenly? It will be a crunch. You do not want to be caught in that situation. If you are driving fast, it is even better to widen space. Keep at least one car’s space between, to give yourself some braking and stopping distance.
Use your lights properly
There is nothing as disgusting to a driver as using the high beams. Thus, you should always turn them off as another car approaches from the oncoming direction. Put yourself in the shoes of the driver of the oncoming car. Do you know that most accidents at night are because of blinding lights?
Merging – Help Others
Kindness does not hurt. If you see a car trying to merge, politely give way. Nobody is disputing that you have the highway right of way, but lending a hand is a good thing. Just make sure that you do not compromise your safety by yielding.
Steer Clear of the Left/right Lane
Well, this depends on your country’s side of driving. Some drive on the left, others drive on the right. Well, there is a reason why the furthest left or right lane should be kept clear – it is for passing only. By staying too long on that lane, you annoy other drivers who intend to pass. Besides, you are risking your own safety!
On sight of a Stop Sign – Stop
This is a rule that many people violate quite often. Why risk a crash? Besides annoying other drivers and pedestrians, you can go to jail. Even worse, you won’t be there to apologize.
There is no need to play full blast music
Nobody wants to hear the music from your car. Mind you, they have the stereo in their cars as well. Besides being annoying, loud music can distract you and other drivers. Before you know it, you can cause an accident. Amateur road users blast their stereo; you are not amateur, are you?
Follow the Parking Rules
Most parking spaces are clearly demarcated and there is a reason for that. Never park our car in an awkward position – you will make it difficult for your parking neighbors to get in or out of their cars or their parking. Do not eat on the parking space of other cars. Not only is it annoying to other drivers, but you also risk scratching other cars. The other driver can easily scratch your car too as he tries to negotiate his way out of the parking lot.
Car Maintenance – Do it as recommended
Poorly maintained cars spurt dirty cloud of exhaust fumes. The drivers of cars behind you will be distracted by the foggy cloud. Maintain your car regularly to avoid annoying others on the road.
Strap down your luggage, especially if they are light
While driving, winds can get really strong. Your light luggage can cause a fatal accident if not strapped down properly. In fact, most accidents occur because of flying objects falling out of the vehicles.
Blocking the intersection might be the worst mistake you will ever make
Weigh in on the option of proceeding through an intersection on a traffic-jammed road. If you feel you won’t make it, do not try it! Should you stall in the middle of an intersection and a Mack truck come hollering down on you … well, the Mack will be the last thing you will ever see.
Drive safely, be happy.
