Is DIY servicing time over?

  • by Anthony Kim Jr

There is a lot of campaigning from manufacturers against DIY servicing. There are times that you feel your wallets is lighter than a feather financially and all you can do is give your car that needed service by yourself. This means getting all dirty with the oil change and tightening any loose nuts. Some people however are still questioning the possibility of DIY when it comes to dealing with automobiles of today. Some reason that with the money they will pay at the service station, they can buy a new accessory to improve the performance of the vehicle.

Why DIY Worked A While Ago

Well it is obvious why servicing your vehicle was easy a while a go and why it is gradually becoming a complicated affair. While older models of vehicles were all manual and everything was a straightforward ABC, things have become more technical with the computer technology invading the automotive world. Not many people can handle the desktop computers and laptops that well and thus the computers on their cars are a no go zone. What used to be a spanner and other tools affair has transformed to computer diagnosis and settings.

Is There Hope For DIY

There is definitely hope for DIY servicing for drivers but the need to be more careful and cautious when dealing with the computerized parts. According to AA, the basics of the combustion engine remains the same old setting that most drivers have already got used to in the manual vehicles. This simply means that the impossibility of servicing a modern vehicle by yourself is actually a myth. Changing the oil is still the old procedure that will get you oily and checking for loose nuts and changing worn out accessories and parts has not got any difficult.

Why Is DIY Servicing Disappearing?

The disappearance of DIY servicing of vehicles cannot be blamed on anything else other than the generation of today. The problem with the younger generation is that they view every gadget and machinery as one object and they will use it until it is not functioning well then dispose it for a new one. This has eventually killed DIY servicing and when someone cannot afford to take a simple issue to a professional mechanic, they will let their vehicle rot in the garage or worse, leave it where it broke down.

The Future Of DIY Servicing

The curtains have not yet fallen for DIY vehicle servicing since there are still many manual vehicles on the roads today. This does not just restrict the procedure to the ‘oldies, the modern vehicles can also be serviced using this process. Though a look under the hood of a modern vehicle will not give any driver the hopes of ever solving an issue, keeping the basics of an automobile in mind will go a long way in helping in the servicing. Time and technology might have brought about the new types of vehicles, but the foundations used in making a car still stand and servicing your new vehicles will not be any different from what it has always been; you just need to keep away from the complex computer stuff.
