A Glimpse into What Is On Offer at the Johannesburg Classic Fest 2012
Nasrec Expo Center, in the south of Johannesburg, will be the place to be on 28 October. The Big American V8 engines will be on show and so will be many homegrown bests. It will be quite an eyeful for a classic motor enthusiast.
Come 28 October 2012, on a Sunday, to be precise, every classic car enthusiast’s eyes will be turned upon the Jo’Burg classic car fest . This is the no limit show of all time because vehicles of all makes and origins will be showcased. The homegrown varieties that carry the day any time will be there.
As always, the monster-engined American cars and trucks may just carry the day this time round but there will be more eye-feast.
Classiccars.co.za and Rolling Thunder, the organizers of the fest, have promised that the event is a must-attend. Not even one of the full twelve hours will be wasted. Remember that the show starts at 8.00 am and will end at 8.00 pm. However, just like the other classic car shows, this one will remain in the hearts of many motor enthusiasts for many days. This year’s show slated to take place on Sunday 28 October is going to attract more than 1000 cars.
As much as the American classics may carry the day, there are more cars for a classics freak. There will be different classic models from Germany, France, Italy and Britain. From all signs, this looks like it will be one huge contest for the top honors.
Just how classic is classic?
This question has baffled many people before. Mark Groenewald of Rolling Thunder has answered it. He says that anything that was made before the 80s fits the description of a classic. If you car fits this description, you will get free entry so that you can display your car in its designated place. For the spectators, it will be R50 for adults and children above 12 while children under 12 years get free entry.
The show pullers
This year, it is expected that the 40s favorites like the caddies, Dodge Chargers and Mustangs will be rubbing shoulders with the Volkswagen, MGs and Alfa Romeos. And just as every classic motor show enthusiast knows, the classic car festival will never be the same without the American pickups of eras gone. These will include the ford and the un-aging Chevy, some as old as the 1930s! However, as the show organizers warn you, you should come expecting much more.
Ford Cortina of South Africa will be in the show big time as this one corresponds with their 50th anniversary. They will be displaying their five generations of the Ford South Africa.
You can take your car on Sunday morning or Saturday. Fancy giving your classic car a sleepover! Tight security is guaranteed.
The Icing on the cake
In attendance will be the classic Rock group Ballyhoo from many years back. They are actually a classic show themselves. They will be in attendance all day. Are you from that Era? You will be entertained and if you are not, you still have a lot to enjoy from pure untainted Rock n’Roll.
The History of : information htrsoiy An automobile powered by a Otto gasoline engine was built in Germany by in 1885 and granted a patent in the following year. Although several other engineers (including Gottlieb Daimler, Wilhelm Maybach and Siegfried Marcus) were working on the problem at about the same time, Benz is generally credited with the invention of the modern automobile. The large-scale, production-line manufacturing of affordable automobiles was debuted by Ransom Eli Olds at his Oldsmobile factory in 1902. This assembly line concept was then greatly expanded by Henry Ford in the 1910s. Development of automotive technology was rapid, due in part to the hundreds of small manufacturers competing to gain the world’s attention. Key developments included electric ignition and the electric self-starter (both by Charles Kettering, for the Cadillac Motor Company in 1910-1911), independent suspension, and four-wheel brakes.Although various pistonless rotary engine designs have attempted to compete with the conventional piston and crankshaft design, only Mazda’s version of the Wankel engine has had more than very limited success.Since the 1920s, nearly all cars have been mass-produced to meet market needs, so marketing plans have often heavily influenced automobile design. It was Alfred P. Sloan who established the idea of different makes of cars produced by one company, so that buyers could move up as their fortunes improved. The makes shared parts with one another so that the larger production volume resulted in lower costs for each price range. For example, in the 1950s, Chevrolet shared hood, doors, roof, and windows with Pontiac; the LaSalle of the 1930s, sold by Cadillac, used the cheaper mechanical parts made by the Oldsmobile divisionSource:
