The Most Fuel Efficient Japanese Sedans

  • by Patrick Gioko
  • November 6, 2014

A sedan is not good enough unless it can help you save money on petrol. Luckily, Japan has been on the forefront in the manufacturing of cars that consume very little and deliver a lot of mileage on the road. What is the secret to knowing whether you have bought a fuel saver? It is easy… insist on knowing km/l, that is, how many kilometers can your car travel with 1 liter of petrol. Need we say the more the better?

Here are a few cars that will give you more than enough value for the money you pay for fuel:

Kia Forte

This car is not awesomely created with a sleek body, but it also saves money on fuel. It is a midsized sedan that has four doors. With a 156 hp, 2 liter engine and 4 speed manual or auto transmission, the Forte is a joy for any driver. It comes in EX, LX and SX trims. It is widely available as a secondhand car on Be Forward.

What is the fuel economy? 14.5km/l on the highway and 10.2km/l in the city… this is not so bad and with some expert driving, you can actually get more.

Toyota Yaris

When I saw this car, I was thoroughly impressed by its sleekness. However, its fuel economy whipped off my feet. It can do an awesome 15.3 km/l on the highway and 12.3km/l in the city, probably more with some skilled driving. Add a roomy interior, the performance and many other features to the amazing economy and you know that you have a car for keeps. You will save money with a used Toyota Yaris.

It has an output of 106hp from the 1.5 liter engine – four-cylinder.

Kia Rio Eco

138 horsepower, 1.6 liter engine, small and compact, the Kia Rio Eco may not have many saving graces for the buyer, but with a fuel efficiency of 17km/l on the highway and 13.2km/l in the city, I know you have already made up your mind. Good thing is that you most probably haven’t heard of this car before and therefore you will have the most unique car around your city. Remember, this is a 2013 edition, a better redesign of the 2012 edition.

Honda Civic

For a long time, the Honda Civic has been top amongst the most fuel efficient cars in the market. It nets a high mileage per gallon, if you like, 17.4km/l on the highway and 12.3 in the city. The variety of the trims is eye-catching. With a 1.8 liter engine and five speed automatic transmission, many people love this car, whether they buy it used or new.

The Nissan Versa Sedan

There is the Sedan and then there is the hatchback. Both of them have the same fuel economy. This is a very stylish family car with room for five people. It offers a lot of legroom and headroom. Of course, it is still missing on some features that you would love, but it does look very stylish from outside.

The fuel economy is 17.0km/l on the highway and 13.2 in the city.

Toyota Corolla

This is the overall bestseller for all time. It can do 15.7km/l on the highway and 12km/l in the city. While these values are for the manual transmission, there is no major difference between the automatic and the manual one. While handling might just be average, this is one of the best cars in the market today.
