The battle for Africa by the SUV makers is a difficult one to end because there is always a new SUV designed and made for the African roads and lifestyle. And while some SUVs may appear as though they are winning the battles, the war is far from over; actually, it has just begun. SUVs in Africa are loved for different reasons. Some people look at them as the fuel thirsty guzzlers that cruise their roads driven by the elite and those with fat pockets. Others consider them to be the perfect fuse between the off-road aggressive vehicles and the town life automobiles.
The Brands
As the African continent craves for a part of the high life that includes driving new model SUVs, the companies behind these machines have done their homework and know just what the continent needs. This has resulted in a scramble for the African market and the manufacture of different SUVs.
The Luxury Drive
Luxury SUVs are not left behind because as you know, Africa can also boast of the rich and famous who can afford these big machines, not in their dream, but in reality where they can just decide to pop into a dealership and drive one of these vehicles out.
This simply means that it is kind of difficult to drive or walk around African roads without coming across the high and mighty brands in forms of SUVs. You will not miss a Mercedes Benz SUV such as the M-class or the G-class SUVs. While still on the high end vehicles, most probably seconds after the Mercedes Benz SUV zooms past you, there will be an Audi belonging to the Q series family and the all new and posh BMW X6 or one of its predecessors will be parked near by. The luxury SUV list will not be complete without the mention of brands such as the Volvo SUV which is also fighting for a position in the big league.
Other SUVs
The fact that there is a list of Luxury SUVs does not mean that the rest are less luxurious. There are quite a number of Chinese SUVs, Japanese SUVs and American SUVs that are causing ripples in the African automobile market. Japanese SUVs are common especially because of the strength of Japanese vehicle manufacturer in this market. In trying to get a better position in this life-long battle, Japanese vehicle manufacturers provide Japanese SUVs at affordable prices while trying their best to match the luxurious features in other brands. Their strongholds include vehicles such as the Toyota RAV4, Subaru Forester, Honda CR-V, Toyota Highlander, and Nissan Murano.
America also has a place in Africa’s SUVs market. There are a few brands from America but one that has almost succeeded in joining the big boys’ league in Africa is Ford. Ford SUVs are doing quite great on the African soil and they can smile to the bank because as it seems, the African continent is embracing their vehicles such as the Ford Escapade and the Explorer. This is as car enthusiasts wait for the arrival of vehicles such as Chevrolet’s Equinox and Transverse in the dealership near them. There is a growing market in Africa ready to accommodate anyone with style, performance and cost effectiveness.
